Councils Celebrate Young Children and Their Families

In April early childhood organizations, professionals, and advocates celebrate young children and their families by recognizing the importance of positive early childhood experiences, promoting early learning and healthy development of young children, and highlighting the role everyone plays in preventing child abuse and neglect.

This year, “Week of the Young Child” is April 16-20, 2018 but many extend this celebration all month long! April is also National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Across the state, Councils and their community partners will host events to celebrate young children and their families, including:

  • Huerfano-Las Animas Counties Early Childhood Council
    • City of Walsenburg Proclamation, April 4 at 6 pm, City Hall
    • City of Trinidad Proclamation, April 17 at 6 pm, City Hall
    • Trinidad Las Animas County Chamber Luncheon: Presentation on Week of the Young Child, April 18 at 12 pm, Trinidad State Junior College
  • Mesa County Partnership for Children and Families
    • Mesa County Commissioners Proclamation, April 2 at 9 am, Old Courthouse
    • City of Grand Junction Proclamation, April 4 at 6 pm, City Hall
    • Day in the Library, April 7, 10 am – 1 pm, Mesa County Public Library

  • Early Childhood Council for Logan, Phillips and Sedwick Counties
    • Free Swim Day at the Sterling Rec Center, April 14, 1 pm – 3 pm
    • Free Swim Day at the Holyoke Pool, April 15, 2 pm to 4 pm
    • Free Bowling Day, April 29, 1 pm to 3 pm
