TEACH Impact Story: Martha

I am Martha Rodriguez. My family and I are from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. We moved to the United States 28 years ago. I came to the United States when I was 8 years old. I had to learn to adjust to a new country, but also keep my values and culture. I feel that this is a good thing to do. There’s nothing wrong with being different and learning how special we are as individuals in this world.
The TEACH Scholarship has meant a lot to me this year. It’s given me the opportunity to continue with my career and become a preschool teacher. I feel very blessed to have this scholarship and they are helping to make my dream come true. With the TEACH program I have the support I need to succeed. The supportive staff is always helping me with any questions or concerns. I am attending Metropolitan State University working towards my degree. A teacher is definitely an essential and an important job that requires the learner construct his or her knowledge. A teacher also has a great responsibility in preparing the students well for their careers and lives, and it is important to know that without the teacher, jobs such as those of a doctor, lawyer, nurse, and so on, could not be done as one needs to be taught before taking up a career. It is a rewarding job- students become wiser and well educated people, they can be happy and proud. Many teachers have been helpful and important in helping me become what I am today.
