TEACH Impact Story: Simone G.

“I realized being with children was my passion. It gave me a reason to get out of bed again, a reason to smile and took the focus off my grief… Last fall my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer (nonsmoker) and the same week I had major surgery to remove skin cancer. A month later our car was totaled. My husband had surgery to remove ½ of his lung and a month later came down with pneumonia. Was it ever going to end, we thought? Not until the world got shut down with COVID! Trying to find money to continue my education was going to be a struggle; how could I afford a class when we could not even afford basic necessities? Because of TEACH, I am not only back on track, I am taking classes towards a bachelor’s degree in ECE. I honestly could not afford to take a class if not for the TEACH scholarship So, when you wonder who you are helping, here I am. This mom of 3, cancer survivor, cancer survivor’s wife, full time employee and now student. Thank you for this opportunity, it’s very much appreciated, and I am so very grateful.”
